East Godavari district is also known as Thurpu Godavari Zilla is a district in Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is Located at Kakinada. As of Census 2011, the population in East Godavari district is 51.5 lakhs. Rajahmundry and Kakinada are the two biggest urban communities in the Godavari areas as far as population. The area of Rajahmundry display name Rajamahendravaram was rearranged in 1859 into two areas of Godavari and Krishna.
The District has Seven Revenue Divisions - Amalapuram, Etapaka, Kakinada, Peddapuram, Rajamahendravaram, Ramachandrapuram, Rampachodavaram
